Well, the
SCVARSITY rankings have been released, so here is the first of two preseason

points.
PR: Team
(SCMAT, SCVARSITY, # Non-Returning SQ, # of In-State Losses, Strength in
Schedule*, Highest In-State Tournament Placement*) Points – Quality Wins*
PR: Team
(SCMAT, SCVARSITY, # Non-Returning SQ, # In-State Losses, Highest In-State
Tournament Placement*, Region Placement) Points - Quality Wins*
*Tournaments
included are: Palmetto State Classic,
Taco Bell Invitational, Silver Fox Invitational, Bearcat Invitational, Rebel
Classic, Battery Creek Duals, Wildcat Duals, Blue Devil Classic, or North
Myrtle Beach Classic. If a team
competes in more than one of these events, only that team’s highest finish will
be included towards Highest In-State Tournament Placement. The Blue Devil Classic is added by popular
demand. Quality Wins is a new addition;
I think it counts for something if you beat any of the teams included in the
Power Rankings. For each Quality Win, a
tenth of a point (.1) will be subtracted from that team’s final points. Strength of Schedule will also be added by
popular demand. It is a simple point system
starting with 12 points. For each team
(included in preseason Power Rankings) that is included on a team’s schedule,
one point is subtracted from the 12 original points. If a team at least has one of the nine tournaments listed above
on their schedule, two additional points will be subtracted from the original
12 points.
Strength in
Schedule Example:
Dutch Fork Varsity Wrestling 2002-2003
Date Opponent/Event Points
Dec. 6-7 Palmetto Classic 2
Dec. 10 Richland Northeast 0
Dec. 12 Summerville 1
Dec. 20-21 Silver Fox Invitational 2
Dec. 27-28 Hornet Holiday Classic
(VA) 0
Jan. 3 Byrnes / Northwestern
1
Jan. 7 Irmo 1
Jan. 8 Lexington 1
Jan. 10-11 Bearcat Invitational 2
Jan. 15 Lower Richland 0
Jan. 21 Airport 0
Jan. 22 Spring Valley 1
*also Anderson vs.
Citadel at Dutch Fork High School
Jan. 24-25 Wildcat Duals 2
Jan. 28 Sumter 0
Jan. 30 Battery
Creek 1
12 – 8 = 4
I took the
original 12 points and subtracted 2 points for competing in at least one of the
nine tournaments listed above. If a
team has more than one of those tournaments scheduled, only one will be counted
for points. I also subtracted one point
for each of the following opponents scheduled:
Summerville, Byrnes, Irmo, Lexington, Spring Valley, and Battery
Creek. That leaves Dutch Fork with 4
points for Strength in Schedule. For
Strength in Schedule to be included, I need one thing; I NEED EVERY TEAM’S
SCHEDULE THAT IS INCLUDED IN THE POWER RANKINGS! Please give me a little help on that. Only the preseason Power
Ranked teams will be counted for Strength in Schedule, so no new team in the
Power Rankings later in the season can be counted toward points; though, any
team that is ever ranked in the Power Rankings may be counted towards Quality
Wins.
Notice how a
college match is scheduled to take place at Dutch Fork on Jan. 22. This will be a great match, so please come
and see the only two remaining college wrestling programs face off at Dutch
Fork High School.
