AAAA Upper State Wrestling Window

January 2, 2003

Wrestling season is kicking into full gear. Some upstate teams are going to the Low Country tournament held at Beaufort this weekend, and tournaments like the Bearcat on Jan. 10-11^th. Unfortunately I won’t be at the Bearcat, but good luck to everyone wrestling in it. I will be at the Pickens County tournament Jan. 11^th, so the only AAAA team I’ll get to see is Easley. These upper state AAAA rankings should help some wrestlers not on the list to know what they need to do to make the top four and qualify for the state tournament held in February at The Citadel.

Lexington has taken over the top spot in the upper state as Spring Valley took a slight step back from their powerful PSC placing of third. Fort Mill continues to improve, and I expect them to do so up through February. Rock Hill placed ahead of Byrnes at the Rebel Invitational. Northwestern had a huge win over Irmo, and a defeat at the hands of a solid Lexington team. Hillcrest, Mauldin, and Ridge View will get to see some competition in January, with all three teams hoping to improve on their standing.
